Why a static QR code never expires
A static QR code stores your actual content — the website address, the Wi-Fi password, the contact card — inside the black and white squares. Any camera app reads it directly. There is no server in between, so there is nothing that can be switched off.
Many “free” generators give you a dynamic code instead. It only contains a short link to their own server (for example qrco.de/… or me-qr.com/…), which forwards scanners to your page. When the trial ends or the subscription lapses, the forwarding stops, and your printed menus, flyers and business cards lead to an error or an upsell page.
Static vs dynamic QR codes
| Feature | Static (Kitlibre) | Dynamic (trial / subscription) |
|---|---|---|
| Expires | Never | When the trial or plan ends |
| Needs an account | No | Yes |
| Works offline (Wi-Fi, contact, text) | Yes | No – needs the vendor server |
| Scan tracking | Optional, via UTM in your own analytics | Vendor tracks every scan |
| Edit after printing | No – make a new code | Yes, while you pay |
Frequently asked questions
Do these QR codes expire?
No. The content is encoded in the image itself and no redirect is involved, so the code works forever. A website link only stops working if the website itself goes offline.
Is it really free? What is the catch?
There is no catch: no signup required, no subscription, no watermark, no limits. The tool is open source and runs entirely in your browser.
Is my data uploaded anywhere?
No. The code, your logo and your Wi-Fi password never leave your device. There are no tracking cookies.
Can I use the codes commercially?
Yes, for anything: menus, packaging, posters, business cards.
PNG or SVG?
SVG is a vector file and stays sharp at any print size — best for print shops. PNG is best for documents, websites and social media.
Can I track how many people scan my code?
Use the UTM builder: scans of a website code then show up as a campaign in the analytics you already use, without depending on a redirect service.
